Spring has sprung! This means you are ready to freshen your home. But are you making these common mistakes when selecting paint colors?
There is a science behind selecting the right paint color for your home because there are so many things to consider when selecting a simple paint color, especially when your home is facing in a certain direction or say its surrounded by really tall trees which do make an immense amount of difference. These are only two I have named that are dependent on the natural light that comes in the house and how it makes the color look at different times of the day.
The paint color also needs to be complementary to the fixed elements that are in the spaces that need to be painted. The fixed elements are your cabinet color, countertops, backsplashes, floor tiles, wood, carpet, bathroom tiles, shower surrounds etc. Majority of the time people want to select neutrals, which have distinct undertones. Beige itself has 3 different undertones, which many people don’t realize how it works with the fixed elements. And builders always get it wrong. Had to say it. Sorry. The grays have at least 6-8 undertones that need to be kept in mind when matching with the fixed elements.
The most common mistakes are done by homeowners because they do not have the knowledge of how to select a paint color with some of the examples I shared with you. A professional, who has studied color and how it affects the mood of the space as well of those using it; and would keep the above-mentioned elements in mind when selecting paint colors for their clients and creates a natural flow. Color makes a huge difference in a space and if its the right color, it beautifully highlights the architectural details or gives dimension and in many cases gives the space a character and charm that may have been missing. BUT!! If you paint your entire house based on a paint store associates suggestions and it does not look right in your home, just imagine the cost of just having paid a painter paint the wrong color in your entire home not to mention the cost of the paint to do the job. Things add very fast and can be a big blow to the budget that can be avoided. The problem with the paint store associate telling you what colors to paint in your home is that they are not in your space and taking into account all of the elements that need to be considered.
When you do consider painting your room or the whole house, especially the whole house, invest in a consultation with a professional who will make this daunting task a breeze for you, which they will take care of for you. You do not even need to lift a finger. The result would be a home that you Love and Enjoy for many years to come. An investment worth its weight in gold.
